What the Editor has to say

DAVE POPE BROUGHT a much-needed smile to my face when he renewed on time today - “Protection money enclosed!” he said. I needed that - life is getting too stressful. We returned early from our French vacation to get this mag out, only to find the freezer broken down with brown, evil-smelling goo running out of it, like the Quatermass Experiment gone wrong. In fact ‘evil’ isn’t a strong enough word and we can’t get rid of the pong. I feel I just can’t face the hassle of getting articles and photos in and other problems as well. In fact the NWBN is controlling our lives and removing our freedom to go places as and when we like, so this could be my last NWBN unless I can get some help, or the next one could be December, not November. Otherwise if someone wants to take it over (while maintaining the standard) please contact me.

THERE ARE NO FESTIVAL reports this time - no-one wrote any and we didn’t go to any festivals - we have decided the French vacation is more important- stress-free and relaxing. Silsden kindly offered a free ticket for someone to write a report, but the offer came too late for us to organise someone. It strikes me that free tickets are the way to get festivals and other things written up - written comments welcomed! I could have filled it up with silly jokes - that’s easy - but we got other good stories instead.

WE HAVE ANOTHER mixed bag this time so I hope you like it. I select what I think is interesting and/or entertaining - if you think differently, please write in or write an article! One of the most difficult things is getting photographs - even event organisers don’t arrange any. Please, take a camera wherever you go and see what you can do. But also guitar tabs are hard to come by - more bluegrass guitar tabs are urgently needed. There isn’t one this time because there is no space. Also I have had to hold part 2 of Pat Cloud’s ‘Practise Tips’ article until next time - sorry, Pat!See Part 1

THERE IS FEEDBACK from Bev Williams - there will be a Rochdale 200. The venue will be just the opposite of last time, so we hope that the bands will support again next time - and, just as importantly, the paying audience...

I AM BECOMING disillusioned with the apathy of many in the bluegrass fraternity - what with only one entry for the CD prize! Is it all worth it, one wonders? There is an awful lot of “take but no give.” But on the brighter side, we have good a sound base of good, reliable writers and it’s always nice when something good drops in, as it did a few minutes ago - thanks, Matt!

There - I’m feeling much better than when I started....
