Chris Wings In! (Pun intended)

IN PLACE OF THE USUAL SHOWCASE NIGHT on March 10th we invited Tom Travis to run the Picking Session and to do a large section of his own songs, passing the breaks around. Things didn’t work out exactly as we’d planned though - it was St.Patricks Night and most people’s interests were directed elsewhere - the City Centre was deserted! But that didn’t stop a small crowd of us assembling and having a real good pick!

Chris Wing and Tom Travis

The big surprise treat was that Tom had brought along, out of hibernation, Chris Wing. Many will know that Chris was the Mandolinist in the Tom Travis band from 1982 to 1994 and the person I took over from as BBMA North West Area Rep in 1995. Chris was with T<.>om longer than T<.>om was with Smiley Bowker! Chris complained that he was “rusty”, but I wish I were half as polished!

To<.>m is the organiser of the new “Edale Weekend” Bluegrass Festival, held for the first time this year, at Nottingham. T<.>om says “Come on over and meet Robin Scruggs!”

Thanks to the loyal supporters who shunned the temptation of Greengrass and *My Goodness knows what on St.Patrick’s night.... Chester Club Organisers

* The old catch-phrase is "My Goodness My Guiness!"
