On The SNACs at Didmarton 1997

By Chris Moreton

I agree with your comments in the November 1997 issue, about the Sensitive New-Age Cowpersons (SNACs). Not only do they play and sing STONKIN’ Bluegrass - they also entertain anyone who doesn’t actually hate the sound of BG Music. If, along with their stage shows, they had an opportunity to do a Bluegrass workshop featuring examples of “Traditional Bluegrass and It’s History”, together with some picking, singing and performing techniques thrown in too, they could probably do even more to promote the music we love. I regret missing their “meet the band” workshop at Didmarton.

I’d also like to mention how much I enjoyed the contribution from the young lady who provided a superb eye-catching display of Clog Dancing during SNACs’ Sunday stage show - well done!

Following Guitarist Magazine’s “Acoustic Guitarist of the Year 1997” award at Wembley, congratulations go to Steve Yates (also featured at the 1997 Didmarton Festival) and Terry Lees (Brighton). Steve won in November 1997 and Terry was runner-up.

I’m looking forward to this years Sore Fingers Week in April - welcome to all who’ve already enrolled for the guitar class (mine!). And thanks for a great magazine!

Editors note: Modesty prevents Chris from saying that he took 1st place in 1996
(see NWBN, Jan, 1997). After this year’s contest Chris played Jalapeño Breakdown on stage. When he finished he got a 100% standing ovation - there weren’t any chairs!

Chris has his own page on our site - why not pay him a visit?
