Bobby Thompson, one of the originators of three-finger banjo-picking, had died. He recorded with many of the music industry’s top artist’s including; Jim & Jesse, Bill Monroe, Dolly Parton, Johnny Cash, Marty Robbins, Hank Snow, Tammy Wynette, Elvis Presley, Carl Perkins, Jerry Lee Lewis, Loretta Lynn, Perry Como, Eddy Arnold, Les Paul, Connie Smith, Merle Haggard, Trini Lopez, the Monkees, Olivia Newton-John, Melanie, Jimmy Buffett, Dr Hook, Leon Russell and Neil Young. US band King Wilkie was awarded 'Emerging Artist of the Year at the 2004 International Bluegrass Music Association awards held in October. Click for concert report with photos. After the concert NWBN tried to persude UK promoters to book them while they were still affordable, but without success :-(
