16 Oct: Eric Pollitt of Shawforth, Lancashire, England has died as a result of cancers which returned about 5 months ago. He bore it all with great fortitude and many of those close to him had the opportunity to let him know how much he was loved and valued. The funeral was on Tuesday 21st October in Rochdale.
Northern Proud: Pete Schafer, Ian Reynolds and Eric Pollit Eric has provided tabs for NWBN. Onetime banjo picker in Old Time Express, mandolinist in White House Reunion (News note) who sang at the funeral and Northern Proud (article), Eric leaves his partner Irene, to whom NWBN extends its' condolences. My wife Jean and I have spent many happy hours with Eric & Irene, eating, drinking and picking and it is these that we shall remember. Ed. 1 Oct 2003: Hello, this is Hal Spence from Oregon, USA. I played with the Sawtooth Mountain Boys for 27 years and how fondly I recall the tours we did of the UK in '87 and '90 I believe. I stumbled on to your page and read through the bands and names and recognized a number of the fine people and friends we met there. It is sad thinking of the friends there that have passed on that we had met. Jan Jerrold, Allison Crocker, Andy Townend, among others. I still think how small the world is because of the friends I met there, sharing a common bond of Bluegrass Music. Anyway, if you happen to see Mr. Farmer, or Mr. Williams in Deep River I think it is, say hi for me. You could pass on my write to address also, I would love to hear from them. I no longer play bluegrass. I now direct our youth praise band at our church, which is actually the most fun I have ever had! For 8 years now I think. Anyway, I just wanted to pass on my greeting to all of you. I am terrible at names as there are so many more folks we stayed with over there, but I can't recall names, but I remember them all! Take care and say hi.

Laurie Lewis and Tom Rozum, with Laura Quigley (string bass, vocals) WINTER'S GRACE TOUR, EUROPE 2003:
Andy Glandt writes: "I just want to inform you that in 2004 I will have my 20th banjo touring anniversary. Because of that I plan a double banjo tour from May 7 to 23 with the Amerikan folk troubadour Rik Palieri, during that we want to show a big variety of the banjo. For anybody who is interested to read more about it, please open the pdf file attachment. If you cannot open it, I can send you a word file. We plan night shows as well as concerts in schools. I would really appreciate every support to make this tour a big success." Write to Andy | Andy's website Andy Glandt writes: "I'm leaving Germany on September 25 to go to Ireland for a week. There I'll take part in the banjo festival among other gigs. One week later I will go directly from Ireland to the USA where I will be touring until October 28. Tour details (24th Sept) The 6th EWOB Festival and Tradeshow (the original, real, EWOB) will be held on August 22_23_24 in Radec nad Morovici, Czech Republic - in the open air if weather permits it, otherwise inside the Hotel. The whole hotel is reserved for Bluegrass bands, etc. It is near Opava in a beautiful region. Features: Many international bands, workshops, European Bluegrass Band of the year contest, European Bluegrass Pioneer 2003 election. There is a lot of confusion regarding the various uses of the term "EWOB". I have procrastinated on putting up an article on the misjustices but recent events have given me the impetus I need... I will try to get one up as soon as possible (but it won't be right away... Ed) |
