By John Lawless 27th Sept 2002

Huber Banjos is delighted to announce the release of our new Video Catalog! This 20 minute presentation is available on either VHS tape or DVD for only $5, shipping included to US and Canadian addresses.

During the program, you will see interviews with both Steve Huber and Sammy Shelor (Lonesome River Band) and hear both play their new Huber Banjos. The video is produced in a documentary style that both tells the story of the development of the Huber tone ring and the Huber Banjo line and also shows and describes the various models in current production.

Throughout, you'll hear Huber Banjos being played by Steve and Sammy, plus John Lawless and Bill Evans.

The DVD features 10 minutes of additional footage, including uninterrupted clips of Steve and Sammy playing, plus a slide show of images of the four Huber models.

More information, including online video sample clips and ordering info, can be found on the Huber Banjos web site:

New instructional video series

In March of 2003, AcuTab released the first volume of our new instructional video series, entitled "Power Pickin' - Up The Neck Backup For Bluegrass Banjo." This video was so popular that we set right to work on a companion volume, which is just now being released.

"Power Pickin' Vol II" is subtitled "First Position backup For Bluegrass Banjo" and features two hours of instruction from AcuTab's John Lawless on playing effective, roll-style banjo backup in the the open, or down the neck position. This presentation is great for new pickers who are baffled by the entire concept of backup or more skilled and experienced players who want to add some spice and "authenticity" to their backup.

John starts with a demonstration of how to use simple pinches and rolls to keep track of a chord progression - great for your first stabs at backup. From there, he launches into a detailed discussion of the use of the forward roll to play patterns that last more than a single measure. The classic banjo/fiddle duet is covered at some length plus many examples of playing behind a vocalist, including how to fill the holes when the vocalist takes a breath, and how to stay out of the way when another picker is playing fills.

Both DVD and VHS video are available for $35, including a tab booklet. The DVD/video will be shipping by mid August with advance orders now being accepted.
