Letters to The Editor

Dear Derek,

Just a note to say a Big Congratulations to Jean on winning third place in the La Grange Fiddle and Banjo Festival during your recent visit to the USA! There something particularly rewarding in beating experts at their own game! I was surprised she learn she only took third place until I heard that the winner was your daughter Pam - double congratulations!

It was great to see you both at Todmorden for John and Linda's Wedding Festival. Apart from the headline-making rainy weather the festival was friendly and relaxed with an exciting line-up of entertainment. It was my first visit to the Planetarium, which makes the great bluegrass venue, being a nice, warm, dry building with good acoustics. My thanks and congratulations to John and Linda.

Chris Moreton, Usk, S.Wales

Our congratulations also to John and Linda! There will be a full report, with photos, in the September edition. An' ee bah gum - did it rain!

Greetings from Berkeley!

We've recovered from MerleFest finally: What an incredible amount (excess?) of great music! We all worked hard and got soaked in the rain, but had a wonderful time. It's amazing that they can keep everything so well organized and running on time, what with ten stages going simultaneously. I got to sing with Ralph Stanley, and George Shuffler played guitar and sang with us on our Walker Center set. It was Heaven! The following week in North Carolina was beautiful, and Tom Rozum and I spent a couple of days in the hardwood forests of Hanging Rock State Park with tree identification books in hand, surrounded by blooming Rhododendrons, Mountain Laurel, Dogwood and Pinxter. Sure doesn't look like California out there!

Make sure you check out our web site: www.Laurie Lewis.com We have new entries in the photo album, and have reprinted an interview that I did with Claire Levine for Women in Bluegrass (accessible off of my info page), along with a great archive photo. Our album The Pals continues to be among the top ten albums on the Bluegrass Unlimited chart, holding at #5 after nine months.

Some comments about this NWBN website:

Dear NWBN,

Thank you very much for your wonderful home page on the web site! I'm glad to see you helping to keep the art of Bluegrass music alive and well. Keep up the good work, and as always ... Keep on a pickin'

Thanks Richie, and also for the short piece on the TablEdit tablature software last time. Ed.

Hey! Great site! Keep up the good work!

Doug Davis, Texas. Country Music Classics (classics@countrymusicclassics.com) And Norio Misu from Japan commented "Interesting and exciting site - thanks!"

You Brits astonish me. What web a site! And a record-producing company in the UK is issuing a complete set of Skillet Licker CDs. Welcome!

It's pleasing to have those nice comments on our website! But one hopes that visitors realise that the only reason it can be there for free is that the hard copy version, funded by socially-aware 'sponsors', exists. If all became simple web visitors the NWBN Mag would have to close.... Ed.
