At the BBC Young Musicians of the Year Competition 1999

WHAT HAVE SWEET STORM been doing recently? I wondered. Spokesgirl Holly Turner is not slow at coming forward: Weve had a great Autumn she said. Ireland was the highlight; we love the Dunmore East Festival and it was wonderful to be asked to do our set on Friday and Saturday. Everyone seemed to like us - the compliments were flying and so were we!
My mum, Carmen, had taken New Section, from Praha in the Czech Republic, to the Dunmore East festival and they stole the show, of course. With their great talent and sense of humour, they held the top spot all weekend. We then found ourselves in the semi-finals of the BBC Younger Folk Musicians of the Year competition. Our prize was a Sore Fingers-type learning weekend - it was wonderful. Now we are in the studio doing a gospel CD and its a very slow job - it takes all day just to get one song down. Our first demo CD sounds dreadful to us now... We did a huge Children in Need gig in Leeds, doing support to a famous Leeds-based band called The Solicitors. We gave a CD for auction and it fetched - wait for it - £30 - we honestly couldnt believe it! What can I say? Speaking personally, Holly continued, I am now fronting a blues band based in Manchester. So its all go for Sweet Storm. Some of you may know that we use a single mic which we had brought over from the Czech Republic by New Section. It is the same as Reliefs AKG C300 and we would like to sell it for £200. Various people such as Steve Busby, Steve Wright and all these clever sound men say awe need an NT2 RHO6 because we are six people and we lose out. If anyone wants to help please get in touch.
