This year's meeting was very difficult to arrange because of the problem
of finding a suitable day when everyone was available. This was caused by
Serge leaving for
 home early, Robbie having
visitors and the Chazz Cats
playing for Derek & Jean at the bar. But eventually
Tuesday 24th July was settled upon.
The president opened the meeting. He gained the members' attention by
telling everyone to buy a litre of the Official Drink, vin
rosé.

The Official ACU Tops were spun to a great
chant of "ACU! ACU! ACU!" but everyone forgot to salute the Holy Fountain.

M. Le President Derek confirmed that the
Official Web Site now had a version in French, the Official Language. Membre
Apprentis Laurent Vecillia declared that the French Version was very
funny because the translation is so bad. (MAADOOD).

Derek further reported that top San
Francisco 6-piece Swing Band, The Chazz Cats
(web site) had
visited Aiguèze to play at the bar on 22nd July. This was to celebrate
the 40th Wedding Anniversary of M. Le President and Mme l'Ambassadrice. The
band members had been presented with official T-Shirts and made the Official
Salute to the Holy Statue, St.Roch. (MAADOOD).

Mme. la Vice Président Jaqueline declared
she had nothing to say but would try to think of something. She was told
to do less thinking and more drinking.

Mme La Secretaire Amei explained
that, following the Resolution in the
AGM 2000, she was very sad to have to
 report a letter received from the
Mairie in St.Martin D'Ardèche. The Mayor had concluded that it was
not possible to include the letters ACU in the Feu d'Artifice 2001 even if
the ACU was paying for it. This was not very well received, but everyone
drowned their sorrows in more wine.

Robbi, The Minister Without Portfolio, reported
his mathematical research paper, "On the relationship between the volume
and price of wine on sale at Café Chabot."

This paper resulted in our being able to buy wine at special, privileged
prices.

 Mme l'Ambassadrice Jean reported that
International Relations are as strong as ever. The English Members will visit
Prof. Ralph Nelson, ACU USA Membre Apprentis, at his home in Palo
Alto in October and play bluegrass music there. (MAADOOD).

Felix, The Technical Director, complained
strongly that he had not been given a suitable task to perform this year.
The Minister Without Portfolio told him to shut up and suggested that he
should buy wine. The President then set the Technical Director the task of
buying wine and drinking it.

 M. Le Treasuerer,
Herr Theo Wenten, has invested the initial funds of 2 Old Francs very
wisely. He gleefully showed a new 20-franc piece and said: "It's a short
but good story. Our money grew from 20 old francs to 20 new francs. 100 old
francs = 1 new franc, so that is a for 10,000% increase!" MAADOOD

reported that, under his guidance, the ACU continued to win at Boules on
the Boulodrôme in the Place.

Changes to the
Constitution:
-
Robbi (Minister without Portfolio) proposed
that the ACU must have a Legal Representative. This is because we might be
taken to court (indicted) for all the nuisance noise we make and because
we need more funds. Everyone voted in favour of this idea.

Derek (M. Le President) proposed that because
we are now a Literary Organisation and have items to archive we must have
a
 Librarian-Archivist. Ordinary
Member Renate Wenten objected to this proposal because she could see where
it was heading. Her objections were noted but overruled. So now the position
of Librarian-Archivist exists.

Election of
Officers:

President, Vice-President, Minister Without Portfolio,
Secretary, Treasurer, Chef de Boules, Ambassador, Technical
Director:
Robbi proposed (in English), "The Committee 2000-2001 has functioned very
well, so I think everyone should keep their old positions! Yes! ACU!"

Le President objected, saying "It is time for someone else to be president!"
but everyone else (except Serge, who speaks no English, and Jaqueline, who
was asleep) said "Robbi's idea is better than yours - shut up and drink more
wine!"
So everyone keeps the same job as last year.

Legal Representative:
Robbi said, "I propose Membre Apprentis Tom Drohan as Legal
Representative. He is an amateur viticulteur and viniculteur, has visited
Aiguèze and agreed that it is the Centre of The Universe. But most
importantly Tom is a San Francisco Lawyer. Everyone thought
 this a very good suggestion and Tom was duly
elected Legal Representative on condition that he "gains enough money for
the ACU to buy Aiguèze!" MAADOOD

 Librarian-Archivist:
The President proposed Renate for this position.
Renate objected strongly, saying it would
interfere with her wine drinking. However, because it was a Presidential
Suggestion her objections were overruled and she was elected without the
need for a seconder. MAADOOD

Membre Apprentis Laurent Vecillia, who lives locally, said that his father
is a friend of the Mayor. So he suggested that he should work on his father
to persuade the Mayor to have the ACU symbol next year, not actually in the
main part of the Feu d'Artifice but immediately after it. This idea was adopted
unanimously. Minister Without Portfolio Robbie suggested that with connections
like that he should be our Local Representative.
It was too late to make this official, but all present agreed that Laurent
should become Local Representative Elect.
(We will worry about the fact that the position does not exist...) MAADOOD

The date of the next meeting was set to be July 2002

Copies of the Official Anthem were distributed
to everyone at the bar. The anthem was sung with great feeling by all present,
rising to a crescendo on
 the last verse
"ACU". It was a great success and Annie was very pleased.

There being no other business, the President spun the Official Tops and
the meeting was closed. "ACU! ACU! ACU!"
